A WALK THROUGH THE GOSPEL OF MARK
Thursdays @ 2:30-4pm in the Lounge (4th Sept Hall).
Dates: July 10, 17, 24, 31; August 14, 21, 28; September 4, 11, 18, 25
These will be structured sessions with a focus on reading the whole gospel of Mark across ten weeks, discussion on what we have read, singing and prayer.
In this Mid-year course, we will explore the Gospel of Mark, the shortest of the four Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life. Mark was probably the first of the gospels to be written – about 25 years after Jesus’ ascension, when Paul was in the middle of his third missionary journey and Jerusalem had not yet been besieged by the Romans. Mark’s gospel has a heavy emphasis on presenting Jesus as the prophesised Messiah, the Son of David, who is rejected by the religious authorities of the time, and who calls his followers to radical discipleship in the Kingdom of God. “… Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’” (Mark 1:14-15).
